So, quick question for yinz (that’s Pittsburgh for “y’all).
I’ve been posting a lot of Japanese and/or game music lately. Are any of yinz interested in that stuff at all? I’m always surprised when those posts seem to bring me in less traffic/comments than my silly 80s and dance remixes. Don’t get me wrong, I love Pet Shop Boys, Cyndi Lauper and Prince just as much (okay, way more) than the next guy, but I kind of like posting the Japanese stuff more, mostly because no one is doing it, but also because I feel there are a billion amazing great Japanese artists from the 80s that no one outside of Japan know about.
So, when you come here do you just skim the artist names and then close the tab if you don’t recognize them? Or do you download stuff you’ve never heard before just see check it out?
Of course, this is my blog and your answers to those questions might be entirely meaningless, but it’s nice to get input.

So a few months ago Epic re-released Cyndi’s seminal 1983 debut album She’s So Unusual. I reviewed it and basically called it a travesty of a release, with shit bonus tracks that focused too much on “EDM” modern-day remixes instead of the vintage mixes that fans have been clamoring over for years.
Someday I’m going to record high-quality vinyl rips of all the mixes they excluded (including the various “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” mixes). Until then, here are some weird DJ-only mixes of another great Lauper classic.

I enjoy your site quite a bit. Many of your choices are great additions to my mp3 playlist. I do listen to the Japanese stuff and a lot of it, in my view, is quite good. That said, not all of it is my cup of tea. But that is strictly a subjective matter. I enjoy your other uploads more. For the life of me, I have no idea where you find many of the remixes you put up. It’s quite amazing, actually. Great site, kudos to you.
Re: Japanese & game music
I get why you post it (considering where you are, and your interest), and I do check it out, but it’s not what brought me here originally (like, 8 years ago, maybe), nor what I’m primarily motivated by.
I check in here for the remixes, rare electronica, hen’s teeth and rocking horse shit.
That said, it’s been an education into an area of music I’ve never really known anything about. Learning about Sakamoto and YMO has been great.
I tend the listen to the artists I know or where the description makes it sound interesting, i.e. it is somewhat random what I listen to, but generally not the Japanese or games stuff. Maybe I should give it a go but I am a bit set in my ways. As you say, it is your blog so it is up to you what you post.
I will generally take a chance on any artist that sounds like they are something I would enjoy, but I tend to avoid those that I don’t like…or video game music. 🙂
I actually prefer to download stuff I’ve barely/never heard of in the hopes of finding new cool music, and in the name of self-education. As a child of the 80s I can definitely appreciate the mixes and stuff, don’t get me wrong, but for me it’s more fun to check out the other stuff you post. So to answer your question, I’m more likely to skim the artist names and close the tab when it’s the standard 80s type stuff (but I’m kind of a weirdo) 🙂 Thanks for *everything* you post though, I’ve never had such an awesome dance playlist as the one I’ve amassed after discovering this blog!

I check out quite a bit unless I know I don’t like the artist, like Janet Jackson or Cyndi Lauper. I was playing the video game music the other day and my wife surprisingly liked it.

I read your blurbs and base ‘download or not’ on them for the stuff I don’t know. But I’ve loved Sakamato for so long I just download the YMO stuff without thinking.
I think you have an eclectic mix of music that you share on this blog, and your perspective on whatever you post about is entertaining, and that’s what interests me. Hopefully, you’ll just keep on keeping on as usual.
Ok, curious… and I’ve scoured the net for this great 80s remix – What remix service put this out (“Special Remix Vol. 23”)? It’s not Ultimix, nor DMC… and I don’t think its Hot Tracks. Help! Great post. 🙂
I agree with Timothy above. I’ve been a fan of your blog for years, and since my tastes are similar to yours I appreciate the oddball and non-80s 12″ posts just as much as the more popular artist ones…but at the end of the day it’s your blog and you should feel free to post whatever interests you, regardless of general opinion. Your writing is always entertaining and informative – keep up the great work.
You’ve hosted many discoveries. If it’s caught your attention then that’s a good filter; I’m much more likely to wade into unfamiliar waters if it has your endorsement. I’m preoccupied with Japan these days, so by all means keep it coming — you’ve been a source of some content for a large project I’m releasing next week — but that’s another discussion.
